Update!!!
Yeah I know: My page had been out-of date the last month! But I have a pretty good apology, as I had with my SIP3 Medical exam all my time busy studying. This exam is the final exam of the 2nd part of my studies and is regarded as one of the hardest exams ever! I spent the whole last month in a small dark room (well, I had a small lamp) and hit the books 11 hours a day (and I mean 11 hours pure studying, no bullshitting around!!!!) trying to get as much Pathology, Internals, and Pharmacology into my head as possible! I hope you forgive me that I was not so motivitated to tell you about those worms, diseases and whatsoever I was just reading about, at night when I updated my page ;-)Of course I did a little bit of kiting so I had to do the Austrian championships, the PKRA in Cabarete and the PKRA in Tarifa. The plan looked like this: 4 weeks studying in Austria, then 2 days in Traunsee for the Austrain Championships, afterwards directly to the airport for 1 week Cabarete and then directly to Malaga for the PKRA in Tarifa for one week. I would arrive back to Innsbruck on July 7th at 2 AM, 3 hours sleep, and then SIP3 at 8 AM until 1 PM… not so epic!
This was the plan in raw, in detail it looked more like this: I spent the 4 weeks in Austria in the National library. It opened at 9 AM and closed at 10 PM. I was there before it opened and did not finish until the person in charge kicked me out. I did this 4 weeks straight, 7 days a week, 13 hours a day. At night I even dreamt multiple-choice, and Pharmacology, Pathology and Microbiology kept chasing me 24 hours a day… horror :-(
My kiting was cut down to the minimal! Soley 2 times I hit the water to get some alternative program! And on the 20th and 21st of Jule the Austrian Championships were held at a lake calle Traunsee! The event was organized super well, however there was no wind! The reason why I could go there, was because I still had to study in Austria and so I could not go to Cabarete earlier.
From this competition I left directly to Munich to get the flight to Cabarete. I had just little time to train before the competition started, but I mainly focused on studying. This was mainly the reason for my bad result: only 25th place :-( Adding up to the bad wind, my bad luck with choosing the right kite, it was most of all being distracted by the books most of the time. My heats against the Australian champion Andy Yates and against Austrian-team-buddy Mike Schitzhofer were good, but not enough to beat either one of them. During the whole week I could still manage to keep up an 6 hour study-average a day and despite the bad result I had lots of fun and still managed to get at least some worldcup points.
Just before the exam during the last week was the PKRA in Tarifa on my schedule. Since I had been here almost 3 months during the winter I could almost call myself a local rider from here ;-) The forecast was not as promising as last year and so I had to compete every day on my 11 or 13 with pretty light Poniente. My draw was super bad once again, and so I had to go against the winner from last years KPWT Sebastian Garat! Pretty tough call. Still, I had one of my best heats ever, landing 14 (!!!) tricks in just one heat, well powered and 5 of them switch including some niche Kiteloop Handlepasses, and thereby beating Seb in a very close heat! Asides my personal success I could also obtain the full respect of all the spectators and other riders!
My next heat was against Alex Pastor. My heat was not as perfect as the last one, and thereby it just was not enough to kick this TOP5 Rider out. My first round in the Doubles was against a Polish rider, in which I could support my role as the favorite and beat him. Next heat was against the german champion Mario Rodwald, the later winner of the Best-Trick-Contest! Even though I had once again one of my best heats ever, including both technical difficulty but also power and style, I lost in a arguable 2:1 decision :-( I was pretty pissed, as I could not understand the judges decision moreover when I checked the judging sheets which would have had me winning… Well, just like Mike Schitzhofer in a heat before, the judgings had not quite been reasonable…
But what the f..k, I was 13th in a pretty tough event and I had some really sweet heats, and for the first time I was perfectly happy with my kites and boards: Slingshot and JulePromodel from SU-2. All this was quite promising for the future! I had to leave Tarifa before the event finished cause I had to get to my exam on Monday. I arrive Innsbruck at 2 AM on the 7th of July. I slept 4 hours, repeated some key-questions and left off to take the 6 hour exam! Pumped up with 5 cans of RedBull I raced through the 160 questions from 8 AM until 1 PM! I had a good feeling after it, but I would not know for sure until 3 PM when we had a questionnaire about the whole exam!
When I arrived there, the whole atmosphre was pretty down: For a lot of students the exam was pretty hard, and so the reckoned that they failed. The professor went over all the questions, and I tried to remember what I had put as the answer and marked if I was right or wrong! I could not believe it, when I marked my first wrong answer after 54 questions!!! All in all I had only 18 mistakes out of the 160 questions, which would mean that my chances for an A were more than perfect, and on top of that, noone had ever managed to get an A in this exam :-) SWEEETTT!!!
Well, now I will party until I cant remember all the learned stuff anymore ;-) then I will relax but moreover I will focus 100% on kiting! A really tough season is just ahead of me, and a perfect summer is waiting to be lived! In just 3 days I will leave off for 2 weeks to Egypt, I will get you updated from there… regularily :-)
Oh, check the Gallery, I put some pictures of my trips in there and also some more infos about my new Promodel, that you can either purchase directly over my website, from a local SU-2 store, or directly from SU-2! I hope you like the design! Also, my new sunglass-model is coming out: Julehosp-Superfly :-) Check it out!!!!
BEST Cheers

Servus Jules,

Jule
