PKRA Fuerteventura - Day7 - 13th after the Double

Today I had to finish the rest of the Doubles. My first opponent was legend Sebastian Catalan. Even though extremely strong wind was forecasted I had to take my 13 for my first heat, as the wind was so light. I had already all my kites pumped up ready on the beach from 5-13 qm, cause the wind was fluctuating between 10 and 30 knots every minute. However I reckoned my 13 would be suitable. It felt totally strange, changing from a 5 to a 13, the kite si 3 times as big and 5 times as slow :-)

It was just my luck that 1 minute in the heat, the wind picked up incredibly to about 25 knots an I could barely unhook anymore. Still I managed to get a Blind-Judge-3 and a Switch-Blind-Judge-3 and in the end I stuck a Mobe5. Sebastian was on a 14, and since he was even more over, he could not show anything, and thereby I won pretty relaxed.

My next heat against KPWT Vice-Champion and in New Caledonia living Tom Herbert, would be lots harder, it was already for 9th place. I took my 7, and had an excellent heat: Mobe, Switch-Mobe, Blind-Judge3, Switch-Blind-Judge3, Frontmobe, Switch-Frontmobe and excactly 4 seconds before the finish I landed a KGB. Tom had only 4 tricks, but these with lots of power, he was on 9. The decision was 3:2 favoring Tom :-( The strange thing was, that the two mainjudges (Carlos and Julian Kidd) had me winning and some of the others missed a few tricks, however the Judge-represesentant Sami Gallie would not leave any discussions open, and so I was set back to 13th place.

After a late-evening session on my 9, we went for some great dinner. The plan for the rest of the 10 days on Fuerte is that we go up north to get some great conditions for training. But before this, tonight we will go and party.

Cheers

Jule
