Mauritius - Manawa & One-Eye
The spot here is pretty fantastic. Our hotel is right at the beach and it is just 5m till the water. I am here with my girlfriend Jacqueline, my sister Simona and Mario Rodwald. Simona and Jacqueline came together here, while Mario and me flew in separately. On the water we spend lots of time together, taking care of each other in One-Eye or Manawa. I have been riding the waves a lot, and not doing much Freestyle, but what do you expect in conditions like these…Yesterday was our second day on the green island. It rains now and then, but not a big issue. At the beginning of the day I took my 7 and went into One-Eye for a super long session. Even thought I am still not 100% confident with the shallow water above the reef and the fast breaking wave, I get better and better and push myself to hit the waves steeper and steeper. My cut backs and bottom turns on my wrong Goofy-side get more secure as well, and in case the wave is totally closing out, I just take off and leap over it :-)
Today, the third day, I took the 5 from the start. Manawa did not work too well, but One-Eye extremely good. My timing got a lot better and so I can even Aerial myself out of the lip. Pretty nice. And the sharp corals below me dont scare me anymore either, so I can fully commit to cutting through the waves. During my afternoon session Jac lost her Board. I did not realize it, until I saw it floating 1km downwind close to One-Eye. It took me 45 minutes to go back upwind with it in my hand on my 5!
The forecast for the wind is good anyways, but the wave forecast is getting better and better... SWEEETTT :-)
