HappyFitness 24h Spinning Marathon

On behalf of the children-cancer-organization my fitness center HappyFitness organizes an annual 24h-Spinning-Marathon. Rather, than one person doing the whole 24 hours it is more important that as many people as possible join the event as there will be 10 Euros per participant donated to the children-cancer-organization. Still, the urge inside myself to thrive for the most difficult challenges in life made myself to experience the body-limiting situation with 24h on a spinning bike…

Stefi, the manager of my gym, has asked me a few weeks ago, if I would be motivated to do the whole 24 hours as it is important for the press and would make a good cover story for the whole event. So I prepared myself extremely well, visiting the gym after uni for several hours a day. But to get some mental support and motivation I asked my brother Daniel and my uni-buddy Christoph Schwinghammer if they were motivated to join me. Schwingi was into the whole story immediately, as we failed attempting the same thing 2 years ago already, but this time both of us wanted to get it. Daniel didnt really want to join, but he had no choice ;-)

So we start on friday at 1200 and hope to finish on Saturday at 1200. After the first hour, I already regretted participating at the whole thing already. I felt kinda exhausted, just cycling for 60 minutes… but I would need 1380 minutes more :-( After 6 hours on the bike, my ass was hurting so much, I could barely sit calm on it, I had to move from one butt cheek to the other one to suppress the pain. Daniel, who fought against his Gastritis for 8 hours, had to leave us, after being in severe pain. For me and Schwingi there were still 16 hours to go. At midnight, it was halftime… YAAAYY! But my muscles were hurting like nuts. I felt the sickest cramps in my thighs and calves, still, failure was definitely not an option. From 0200 till 0600 was the hardest time. My brain was fighting against my body. To say, I cant keep going, was not possible. I could only say, I dont want to keep going. But I wanted to! With the morning hitting in, the sun raising and my body-cortisol giving me more and more power, I overcame my cramps, pains and lack of powerd and cycled all the way. The last 2 hours I even went full speed before falling of bike at 1200! I DID IT!!!! I was dieing, but still, I did it :-)

I wanna thank the following people, as without them, I would never have been able to do all this:
-Steffi, the manager. You did an awesome job!
-www.o-look24.com for all the support
-Günther and Werner, who provided me with all the spinning material
-Daniel and Schwingi, who supported me all the time, pushing to the next level when I wanted to quit

First I wanna congratulate myself of course ;-) But also Schwingi and Hubi, who were the only ones besides me to finish the whole 24 hours! Well done guys! For all the hard work, the local newspaper gave us the cover of todays paper. Even though I look shit on the pic, but it was after being awake for 36 hours and cycling for a whole day ;-)

For now, my practicals are done, and I will go to Canada for 3 weeks, before going to the pkra in Leucate and a week fliming to Egypt with Fone. I will keep you guys up to date all the time!

Cheers

Jule
