3rd place at the International Snowkiteevent at KWC on Lake Reschen
The 4 days here on Lake Reschen were pretty exhausting, but really effective! The testival event together with German-Fone-boss Alex Korb and my Fone-teambuddy and snowkite-worldchampion Björn Kaupang was perfect to promote the new kites. Alex wife Anke and my girlfriend Jac helped us in the tents with the organization of the rental process. Every day I snowkitet for over 7 hours and at night I barely was able to eat due to the exhaustment.First I only wanted to compete in the Race, but Alex persuaded me to also participate in the Freestyle competition. Since I am hardly ever doing any New-School tricks on the snow, I really had to go back to the basics and started training unhooked jumps, kiteloops and rotations. Furthermore I had to do 4 Long-distance-races which really ate up a lot of my energy. Still, it was lots of fun racing against the other guys, and if I count away the air-matrass-guys (softkites) I even got second…yay!!
In the Freestyle I really did not expect any good results. First of all it was totally different to the comps on the water and second of all, I was not sure of my tricks at all. So in the first heats I only did basic jumps, mostly grabs and some simple rotations. I increased my level of riding all through the competition and in my heat for 3rd place I was even going for Flat3s and BlindJudge3s… Even though I crashed massively on a Handlepass, I managed to recover fast, and hat some more nice tricks to get onto the podium!!!
My first 3rd place in an international snowkiteevent is awesome! I was only beaten by my teambuddy Björn Kaupang, the world-champion, and the German champion got me for 2nd place. The next week I will go back to Innsbruck, get some work done and then I will go for some time to El Gouna for the Fone-Dealermeeting!
A Big Thanx to Malte Lutz and Jacqueline d Entremont for the pictures. You can get further infos about the events and results at KWC and on Snowkitemeisterschaft
Cheers
Jule
